Lets not forget what being in the Olympic did to taekwondo and amateur boxing as well. I think it would ruin the sport imagine all the mcdojos that would open up with people who got belts watching videos,or from some silly seminar. I like bjj the way it is.

Umm this is already happening. Check out http://www.gracieuniversity.com and the "Bad Blue Belt" Thread. I agree that is will become worse though.

I would love Jui-jitsu to be in the Olympics, but the only thing that makes me think it won't happen is that it is so similar to Judo.

I agree. I'd still like to see it in the olympics though. Maybe the IBJJF should have to approve how the instructor learned BJJ and whether or not they are qualified to run an academy before they allow it to open.

I have a question if BJJ got into olympics, would you have to know actually BJJ to compete or would they let Judo people sign up. And also, would it be gi or nogi. Basically what I am saying is out of the amount of people that grapple, only a about 25% probably really do BJJ.

I would love to see BJJ in the olympics... But it is highly unlikely... Look what happened to womens softball... If one nation dominates a sport they take it out...

Every olympics it will most likely be USA,brazil, and japan getting the medals... I think submission wrestling would have a good shot at making it.. It would be easier for other countries to turn their wrestling beasts into submission grapplers...

I also hear a certain someone with the Gracie name is trying to keep it out of the olympics.

Never going to happen. Or at least not within the next several decades. BJJ is not very big worldwide. I practiced judo for awhile before switching over to jits and practiced in korea for a while too. Not even remotely similar in popularity. To become an olympic sport there has to be a complete change in the structure of bjj and tournaments. The sport needs to get more bodies in other nations as well.

On another topic, you might think that judo might not be very popular here in the u.s, but elsewhere it is incredibly well established. In korea they had judoka on giant billboards for advertisements and on talk shows. In the U.S, judo is extremely small. It may give you a distorted image of what it really takes to be an olympic sport.

Plus as others have mentioned, the olympic board wouldn't like how boring it is to watch for general viewers and its similarity with judo. Judo is already having problems with people thinking it the same thing as wrestling, simply labeling it as jacket wrestling.

Personally I don't ever want to see bjj in the olympics, no matter how popular it becomes. The olympics is where martial arts go to die.
