Why in the world would Wrestlers or Judoka have a problem with BJJ being an Olympic sport?

ITT: Janne sounds like a TUF n00b. My man let's not even joke of such ignorance. Olympic BJJ isn't the UFC.

I think if the US starts getting things organized and the lower levels and then as things work thier way up.. Other countries as thier are others on this very site in other countries can look to start doing the same.. in countries with small amounts of people.. YOu should think of working with the group started in the US to keep things the same across the board as groups like that grow it will help the cause..

All I ask is that no one particular style of JJ weather Brazillian or Japanese. or any one sub group be favored over another. I mean yes I am an RGDA member and my support is there.. but for something like this to work I think it needs be even across the board.
If you are in the Scranton Area of PA and are having trouble finding instruction or training partners or simply can not afford the training that is provided in Scranton.. Contact me. I am starting a BJJ club under the direction of a Jorge Gurgel Black Belt.

because BJJ has uses aspects of both sports only its more complete...Judo is already losing out to BJJ atleast in Canada as far as enrollment goes due to the recent popularity and how effective it has proven.

The Way I look at it is BJJ is grappling. You could be a Judo guy or wrestler and enter a BJJ comp, because BJJ entails all those aspects as well. Once more and more people see that, I could see the popularity of Judo and Wrestling getting even lower.

    IMO.

Ranking in lower divisions (obviously not Olympics) could be an issue if it's not strictly Brazilian. Some sort of equivalence table would have to be drawn up. I see no reason Judo practitioners shouldn't be competing in this as Judo was originally referred to as Kano Jujitsu.

Word. Judo guys have the advantage of being able to slam the shit outta pure BJJ guys on the way to the ground (can be BIG advantage). Probably why when my Judo coach entered a BJJ tournament recently everyone he fought immediately pulled guard on him.

TRue.. but if the Judo guy does not control it to the ground then the BJJ or JJ guy can have an advantage.. and the Wrestler will have his own advantages and disadvantages.

You know there are guys out there that do both Judo and BJJ.

The rules dictate training strategies. I have been competing in BJJ for like 5 years. I am entering my first Judo Tournament Saturday. It has been interesting learning how to play judo over the last year.

Very similar, but your fight strategy is somewhat different because of the rules. I have found that there are advantages and disadvantages to both judo and BJJ fight strategies and rules. Both are excellent training methodologies for sure, and training distinctly in both styles has made me a better well rounded martial artist.

Judo has recently changed some of the rules to encourage better throwing. This pressure was most likely brought on by JJers and Grapplers that are entering the sport.
