The more flexible than I get, the better my game gets. My guard is really ahead. I spend a lot of time on my back, so having a flexible guard is a great help.
I'm not what you concider a flexible guy, but if I was flexible it could only improve my game top and bottom. There used to be a guys at my gym that was extremely limber and he was hard to deal with. It seemed that just when you thought you had a position you wanted he could get something due to his flexiblity. It could only help.

I am a middle weight but despite being a little bigger I was born very flexible. I have been careful to continue stretching while I ncreased my muscle mass so I've styaed very limber. I think the most important areas for flexibility are hamstrings, hips, and groin, especially if you like to play guard. Its very difficult to have a dynamic open guard game without flexibility. If you are not flexible in these areas your guard will always be easier to pass.

I feel that flexibility is important but in a way somewhat overrated. Many people chase flexibility thinking it will be the magic bullet for there game but forget to continue to work on other aspects. I am fairly flexible but sometimes notice issues when I dwell on it to much. Some people get too caught up in attributes and forget about Jiu jitsu, but it doesn't hurt to set aside five to ten minutes for a stretching routine.
I think flexibility is good to have but not a must.. A lot of people are not Eddie bravo flexible but they adjust they're game to what they can do physically and it works just fine for them..although my instructor always gives me a hard time for not being able to touch my toes...
Flexibility works in all aspects of the game. Not only will it allow you to do things others cant (think re-guarding for example.) but it also helps with power and finishing ability, basic physics...the longer the lever, greater the torque.
Attributes are great when you don't allow them to become the primary focus. For instance, someone who lifts weights and or does yoga four days a week but only does BJJ one than thinks that the strength and flexibility are going to automatically allow him to win.
Well were talking about whether flexibility is important for bjj. rubber guard is bjj and you have to be really flexible.
