Did Jiu Jitsu when I was 15, got promoted at 18, joined the army, now I'm one of two blue belts on base (Cause I'm in a very small army base). Not too interesting. I got it after rolling with a brown for 20 minutes straight. He told me afterwards "Man, that was a really good roll. What belt are you?" and told him white, and he said "That won't work, hold on here for a second" and went and got the Black Belt who owns the gym, and he promoted me.

About three weeks ago I received my faixa azul - blue belt. At the end of class my instructor announced that it had come to his attention that someone has been talking sh*t and now he will have to back it up, so he removed the belt from inside his gi and presented it to me.

Everyone laughed and came up to congratulate me and then it was show time. I had to run the gauntlet through a blue belt, 2 purple belts, and a brown belt but it was fun nonetheless.

It took me a little over a year and before doing BJJ I had taken Judo for 4 months. My Judo adventure was cut short by a nasty groin tear which put me on ice for about 8 months. I started in October of last year and constantly worked through the physical challenges I faced as a result of still recovering from the injury.

It took me 2 years after lots of training and a few competitions. My instructor will not promote you unless he feels you are ready to be competitive in the next belt level for in competition.

Same with me, took about 2 years, maybe 12+ tournaments, then i finally got it, such a moment for me.

I have been training for a little over 28 months. I took a total of 7 months off. I am very close to my bluebelt and will probably get it within in the next month. My competition record is 1-3 which sucks. I was robbed in one of the matches by bad judging. You could almost say I am 2-2 unofficially has a whitebelt. I have trained an average of 2-3 times a week.

A question for the other members who got there blue. What was your competition record as a whitebelt? Did you compete? Should your competition record as a whitebelt have any bearing on promotion?

Took me about 2.5 years, a bunch of competitions, and getting injured a lot.
