Sooo the last few days I've been trainin JJ And my hips been killin me..so the question came to my head as to what is the most common injury or nagging pain my fellow JJ bros train with? Oh , and if anyone has any advice for me regarding my hip pain it would be appreciated. I believe it's irritated when I'm in someone's half guard..
I get hip pain also. The best thing that I could say for you that works for me is some anti-inflamatory, and a good heated soak with a good stretch after. Then I try to stay active the following day to keep the blood flowing. I get shoulder pain from an old rotator cuff injury, knee pain from no cartilage, and pretty good neck pain. I attribute it to just getting older, but I'm sure that eventually I will make my way into a doctors to find out whats up with things.
I came to this page hoping it would relate to me and it does!!! I get the same hip pain from half guard. I cannot find a stretch that works very well. I would love to learn one that works.

I get hip pain from time to time.
I find a good stretch is if you cross one leg in front of you (imagin sitting cross legged but with only one) and extenting you back leg out directly behind you with your quad flat on the mat. Lean forward for less tension and backward for a deeper stretch.
Duncan,
Great stretch! I have doing this every since I read your post and it really has helped. That part of the body is a tricky one to stretch out, but this stretch deff helps out.

For me the most common injuries are knee pain and finger pain. Now all I can think of is the line from happy gilmore: My fingers hurt. ... Well your back is going to hurt too, you just pulled landscaping duty.
Stretching really helps you get rid of muscle pains. I have not suffer from any kind of hip pain but whenever muscle pain occurs i give that part of my body more stretch and that really helps. cary il weight loss

I look for a expand is if you combination one leg at the front side of you (imagin seated combination legged but with only one) and extenting you back again leg out straight behind you with your quad smooth on the mat....
