Thread: single under guard pass

    One of our brown belts used to do that type of pass, but he ALWAYS had great posture before he would even think about reaching back. I also think Marcelo Garcia uses the reaching back between the legs to open his opponent's guard. He usually stands when he does it, therefore there is a very little chance he will get triangled. He has some videos on his site showing how he does that.

    I personally dont think the "juice is worth the squeeze" with that pass. You can get it to work, but there are so many other passes that work great and dont expose you as much.

    I have to agree. Any time you reach back in the guard is bad, whether you're standing or not. You may not be able to get a triangle on the guy, but if they're reaching back it usually means they are standing with their feet in line. I would be able to switch to De La Riva and take the back very easily.
