    New BJJ student from Ontario

    Hello all,

My name is Paul and I just started training in BJJ and MMA about a month and a half ago.

I go to a small club in my city of Burlington, Ontario but despite our size we have tournament winning students and also a pro fighter.

I train 2-4 times a week right now and just got a mat in my garage for extra practice, as my neighbour is a purple belt and is excited to make me something special

I am 6'1, around 178 pounds and have a little lankier than normal limbs, which I feel blessed for as i think it gives me an advantage in this martial art.

Anyways, I am loving it so far and my body is loving it too. Right now I am focusing on defense more so than offense, and am getting a lot more comfortable rolling with higher belts, persevering the pressure, staying calm, and escaping their side control and mount. It really feels great and am excited to get better and eventually become an elite champion haha

As for now I am still a straight white belt no stripes but I feel a stripe is coming my way within the next week or two

Nice to be a part of these forums, cheers !

Welcome to the board. Long limbs can be a gift or curse depending on how you use em, keep your elbows in to avoid kimura's and armbar's which are common attacks on longer dudes.

Your body won't be loving it as much after a few hyperextensions and illegal heel hooks from assholes! Kidding, enjoy.
