    Gi Pants legal???

So I was reading Eddie Bravo's book on mastering the rubber guard and he mentioned that he thought it would be smart to use gi pants in mma if you plan to use rubber guard because it causes more friction. He then listed some disadvantages but they didn't seem too bad and I have always felt more comfortable fighting in pants so I was wondering if gi pants were legal in most MMA organizations since I don't see anyone wearing them?

I'm sure it's legal as long as you don't use then as an advantage and they aren't super baggy. Every fight league has different rules though.

Actually this rule various from org to org.. some will allow it.. other won't those that don't look at Shinya Aoki (sp?, its late I am tired) he wears those for the extra grip.. not just the fashion statement.. If you did wear Gi pants I doubt using say a large pant cuff to choke someone would be allowed.. but remember.. if you can grab it.. so can your opponent most likely..

I think when Aoki fought in Strikeforce he wore shorts and not his fancy pants... i think it's because the unified rules of MMA don't allow for pants... i could be wrong tho... when he fights in Japan (their own set of rules), he usually wears the tights

Even where it's not legal you see guys pushing the envelope by wearing things like elastic sleeves to support their knees. Of course the fact that those sleeves give added traction for submission doesn't factor into their decision to wear them at all.

Most MMA fight leagues in the states don't allow gi pants. However in japan i have noticed it is more acceptible ive seen old pride vids of guys wearing full gi's.Course those are older vids so that could have changed now.
