looking for a muscle growth and fat burner to take before or after class thanks
i don't think anything for muscle growth will help you before a bjj class.... i've tried thermogenics (ephedra + caffeine mixes) before class, u just sweat a whole lot more and it gets your heartrate up... maybe not good for bjj when you are trying to play a calm, relaxed style .... but i like to use the fat burners before running to help with energy
Usually for muscle growth you want to take glutamine and protein powder. Creatine is a VERY BAD IDEA in bjj. I think it has been discussed on the forums before so you can search for the reason if you really need to know why.
Our club is a Bjj(GI)/Kickboxing/MMA academy so I have seen many people taking many different things. The only thing I would avoid is vitamin B12 if you take a mixed supplement product. I say this because it will increase blood flow and help energize you (hence the reason why it is put in energy drinks a lot). The problem is that most classes are at night, so taking B12 will likely cause insomnia.
...As it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honoured in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. -Philippians 1:20-21

Training on and off since 11/06. Blue Belt since 12/09.
I have always been told that creatine works by filling your muscles with water. This can cause you to become more hydrated if you are not really carefull about drinking LOTS of water. The dehrdration can cause you to get headaches and get gassed way more quickly. That is the reason why I say it is a bad idea.
Yup, actually I think I mentioned it before on another thread. Creatine also will make your muscles exhaust faster in a sport like BJJ and lead to cramping if your not really careful about hydration. As well with the water weight your carrying its not great for a weight class oriented sport, unless your not gonna be competeing and are trying to gain weight. However there is a new product on the market called Con-Crete; It is a Creatine product that boasts no water retention, and no weight gain, only strength increases. Ive been toying wit the idea of useing it for the last couple months or so, tho I havent heard much review wise about it, it looks to be a solid product as it is a creatine ethly-ester (spelling**?) rather than a monohydrate, (monohydrates are the old creatines, not as good absorption, harder on the kidneys and liver, and with water retention--the new stuff is better all around.)
All you need for BJJ is some good protein powder. Hemp, Pea, whey, or caseinate or even better (a mix of them) and Glutamine. Add some Arginine and pycnogenol if you are wanting something extra. Cycle arginine for 6 weeks on and at least 4 weeks off if you use it though. I also take maca root poder to help my adrenal recharge after training.
wow! had no idea creatine was a bad idea for bjj, thanks for that info!
i was thinking about taking it but not anymore!

Creatine is NOT the best type of protein, as it contains high amounts of mercury, which isn't very good for you, as it can poison you. I recomend whey protein, according to the National Dairy Counsel, "Whey protein is the best type of protein as it contains all the amino acids necessary for muscle protein synthesis."
