OK so I located a BJJ black belt in my area going to check out the school tomorrow afternoon.. The school is owned by Rogerio Taborda, but from what I could understand talking to the guy on the phone today one of his black belts runs the school.. the guy was saying he has been in teh US for a bit over a month and is straight from Brazil.. I must say.. I have not been this excited about checking on a BJJ school or any martial arts school ever.

why would you not being your gi? lol, ya dude what happened?
OK I just got back.. Did not speak to Tatu as he is in FL at the moment.. but I spoke to the instructor there who is named Reynaldo Carlos (I may be off on the spelling) he has been a black belt for 2 years. The meeting went great.. did not get to roll today.. but I am going go tomorrow and roll with him.. not a regular call cause of it being labor day.. he is not sure how many people will show up but he said to come down anyway as he lives at the school and will be there.
He was a really nice guy.. His English was really good too.. Prices a bit steep.. but for this level of instruction it may be worth it.. They have a tournament coming up in like 2-3 weeks.. not sure If I can get the mat rust off enough to compete in it.. but if I can I will assuming I do decide to join. which is so far looking like a very strong possibility.
I guess more to come as I go along.

OK.. all I can say is this ... OOOWWWWWWWWW!!!! My whole body is killing me.. Just got back from my first class..
After being sick last thursday Friday and Saturday and not having been on the mats in about 6 months.. I have a feeling I forgot to pack my cardio with me.. I gassed out during the warm up which was pretty intense. I hate to say I was not in condition enough to complete it.
The class itself was awesome.. we covered some basics from side control and positioning drills from side.. after that We Rolled..
First I rolled with a guy who has been training 5 years and is a brown belt.. and he deserves it.. In 6 minutes he caught me in 4 triangles.. and one armbar which started as a triangle attempt.. I was happy I did manage to pull guard on him near the end.. And I did not gas.
then my 2nd roll was with Reynaldo Carlos the instructor when Tatu is not around. Now he was more testing me then the brown belt.
I managed to survive about a minute before we really locked up he kept trying to pulls me into guard and I was forced to either back out and away when my passes failed. Over all he said he was impressed how I kept my base and my guard pass attempts.. on a bad note.. I did not last the full 6 minutes with him a hair over 4 and I gassed hard..
BUT MAN WAS IT FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!
If I can get my cardio back or at least much of it.. I plan on competing this month and should have video if I do.

good man, sounds like you had an awesome go of it man!
Awesome, looks like you have a new home. I have been shaking some type of monster cold myself. Mine started on Saturday and I am just getting back to work today. Happy training!
Coming back from long layoffs are the best and worst. You almost never have the matt sense as sharp as it was anymore so you always get worked and your cardio is usually lacking. On the flipside, it feels so good to get choked. I think bjj guys just do better without oxygen going to the brain and we dont know what to do with it when we have it. Train hard for the competition and Good luck!
