    Royce Gracie Interview

Just posted the Royce Gracie Interview.

-- Has one more fight left
-- Wears his blue belt (like Helio) instead of his blackbelt
-- Says tournaments are what ruin most martial arts.

I think he means that he wears a blue belt for "sports" Jiu Jitsu competitions. Like his father Helio was famous for saying that if he competed in a Jiu Jitsu only competition he would only be a blue belt. Gracie Jiu Jitsu's philosophy has always been about self defense and not about making the next Jiu Jitsu champion.

I trained with him two weeks ago. He wore his blue belt. It's so dark it could easily be mistaken for a black belt but it is definitely blue. It was pretty cool to see.

that tournaments are kinda watering down the self-defense aspect of jiujitsu. he competed to prove the effectiveness of jiujitsu in real (almost)life fighting scenarios since the old ufc's have virtually no rules.

I agree with everyone. BJJ was developed to be the style that gives you the upper hand, not to compete with. Having said that, I think competition is a good way to develop BJJ because you are learning to be comfortable fighting people you don't know.
