I have just started bjj and have done three lessons so far. I'm really enjoying it and have no troubles doing anything except for sparring in which I nearly always lose.
The grading is in three weeks and will be testing sparring and grappling, basic kicking and punching, takedowns and breakfalls.
There are lessons three times a week for bjj and I want to know if I can make the grading or have to wait till the next grading if I go to every lesson and practice at home.
Tips for sparring would also be helpful if possible.
Thank You
If your at any respectable school there is no way you would be considered for your blue belt after only 3 or 4 weeks. Generally IMO for someone to be a real blue belt, and by that I mean solid able to hang with other blues it takes atleast 1.5 years, ofcoarse that being said some can do it in 1, others take 2.
I don't mean blue belt, i mean white with stripes or yellow, I don't mind starting with the junior ranks.
So at your school you have tests every few weeks? I am not understanding the process here? I thought your instructor would either promote because he sees you deserve it or test you because he thinks you're ready.
No only a few times a year, but I don't want to wait so I want to see if I can train enough so I can get promoted even a little promotion. I see the promotion as a goal that will help me with training.
Edit: When most people in the class are ready a grading is announced. But I'm the only new person in the class. I did TKD for 3-4 years and boxing for 2 months. I've done no grappling before and can only do an arm bar and a Gi choke. I can break fall and can turn the corner. I have 3 weeks to train and 3 lessons per week.

i hope you don't have to pay to be graded.....
I don't.
You won't be ready. Not nearly enough time.
...As it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honoured in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. -Philippians 1:20-21

RIP PrideFC.
Training on and off since 11/06. Blue Belt since 12/09.
I wouldn't rush anything if I were you. It takes a while to advance in this art and there isn't any sense in rushing and trying to get in a class with guys who surely deserve to be there. Not to mention if you compete and you are competing against others who have taken their time to get where they are, I don't think you'll like the results.
