    How do i workout?

so, i've never done hard-core working out.

just go to BJJ class, learn moves practice, grapple
go to Kickboxing class work on cardio, simple exercises, kick-punch combos, sparr.

but i got a gym membership and i really want to workout hardcore for more strength,
but im a noobie and i've got no idea how to lift.

can anyone offer some advice? i seriously don't know what i'm doing...

Well since you claim to be a novice.. with out knowing your body structure and all WE can give all sorts of advice here.. but you need someone hands on to at least get you started.. Your gym should have access to personal trainers. they should be able to put together a plan based on your goals for you.. might be a fee in it but many will at least show you how to do the lifts and such.. if you can get that.. I would be glad to work with you and put together a plan for you.. PM me if interested. I work with several personal trainers for years and am getting ready to go for my certification
If you are in the Scranton Area of PA and are having trouble finding instruction or training partners or simply can not afford the training that is provided in Scranton.. Contact me. I am starting a BJJ club under the direction of a Jorge Gurgel Black Belt.

Shaun T Insanity. Plyometrics work well for us BJJ guys. We've been doing it for a month now and our cardio and strength has improved. I know a few guys who lift weights in addition to BJJ and their game usually suffers from reduced cardio and less technique.

It is "A type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in sports. Plyometric movements, in which a muscle is loaded and then contracted in rapid sequence, use the strength, elasticity and innervation of muscle and surrounding tissues to jump higher, run faster, throw farther, or hit harder, depending on the desired training goal. Plyometrics is used to increase the speed or force of muscular contractions, providing explosiveness for a variety of sport-specific activities."
We've been doing the Shaun T Insanity and we've had good results. Here's some more on Plyometrics.

Ive been doin p90x now for about 6 months and my strength and stamina have went through the roof.P90x also has some plyo in itBeen thinking of adding some insanity into my program and kinda combine the 2.In addition to p90x i jog 3 miles Monday,Wednsday and friday, and roll 3 to 4 days a week.Heavy static weightlifting will make you stronger no doubt but it could also slow you down and make you really stiff.P90x has some weight training in it but most of it is bodyweight exercises which is better for BJJ in my opinion than goin to the gym and pumping heavy iron.

You probably shouldn't ask this on the forums as I am pretty sure, but not certrain, that no one here is a personal fitness instructor. So your best bet is to ask some people at the gym, maybe even set up a person training sesion with some that works at the gym, if your gym does that.

I can offer some advice. Go to www.cardiofight.com and order the DVD that was made for BJJ practitioners. I have a masters degree in Exercise Science and also teach BJJ under the Carlson Gracie Federation. This DVD was made for guys like us!
