One of the problems with eating something like ice cream after going to bjj is the fact you dont give your body all the tools to work on itself. Any bodybuilder or athlete would tell you that the most important thing after a workout is food. The reason is because you just spent your time using energy and breaking down muscles. Inserting something like ice cream will get your sugar levels back up, but it wont give your body everything it really needs.
I honestly would recommend taking a protein shake after rolling. The reason is because those protein shakes contain lots of things your body needs after a workout. You will also feel less hungry and will be less likely to eat ice cream. If you search around, you will find that protein shakes can be cheap too.
I would go with a protein shake, not ice cream. Give your body protein to build muscle and speed your metabolism, not fat grams to retain at night and beyond. Try adding yogurt, skim milk, and ice in a blender to make it more like smoothie. No yogurt throw in a banana, but you get the protein you need to make muscle gains and help loose fat as your body’s metabolism is busy breaking down the protein as you sleep, not storing fat.
I just finished a protein shake. I recommend them highly, as already stated they help your muscles heal/grow and are usually low in fat (make sure cause some are meant to be high in calories for people with high metabolisms). If you get the vanilla flavor its a good base for whatever you want to do with it. I usually buy bananas and a bag of frozen fruit. I use the frozen fruit instead of ice, toss in a banana, and it really isnt bad at all.
I don't know if its been said or not but I have one word for ya.....FRUIT. Have lots of fruit on hand. Its great for late night snacks and quilt free!
Its not a bad thing to eat sweets like ice cream occasionally, but thats the thing. you need to eat those things OCCASIONALLY. it also helps if you eat alternative foods like vegies or fruits or a favorite snack that isnt processed or heavy when you have a craving, esp before bed.
and if its weight youre trying to lose, just as everyones said before, watch what you eat. and dont avoid fats, theyre good for you, but only certain natural fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts etc. and yes avoid fatty dressings on salads like ranch. something i do for a good salad is mix balsamic vinegar and olive oil together and use that instead then maybe squeeze some lemon on top.
If you want to eat less, drink a glass or so of water before a meal, water speeds your metabolism and takes up space so youre more full.
one last thing, i believe a lot of people eat way to much meat and breads and not enough vegies, fruit and what not. people tend to have set foods they like and do not add variety. i mean that they dont have a good mix of the diff things your body needs in order to function properly. try to eat a bit of everything in one meal and mix it up but have good portions. meat should be the size of your fist, veggies should be about twice the amount of your meat and you need natural fats and what not. of course i know that people who are more active will need diff portions but this is just a base line of what the "average" person needs.
i hope this helps a bit.

I say do what makes YOU happy. Heres a recipe for you to simulate a milk shake before bed.
You'll need a blender.
1oz cashews
2 tbsp coconut milk
1 cup wild blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
2 tsp honey
1 scoop whey protein
ice
Put cashews in the blender blend into a powder like consistency. Add blue berries, strawberries, honey, whey, coconut milk. blend until smooth. Then add ice until its the right consistency. Now you are getting healthy ice cream with everything you should eat before bed. Protein, fat and some healthy carbs and fiber.
Great recipe![]()
To the OP I say Ice Cream. However I would look at how hard you workout, what your average weight loss is and your caloric intake if you are trying to lose.
If you are training hard a little ice cream won't hurt.
Ice cream is a cure for busted ribs too isn't it Sid?
I scream you scream I will scream for ICE CREAM~!
