The Red/Black is obviously a huge honor, but does anyone else thing that the belt itself is very unpleaseing to the eye...I think in 31 years when I get mine I will just wear a normal black belt with 7 stripes on it, lol.

idunno man it looks pretty bad ass. but the first thing he said to us is that the belt is just to tie your gi and jiu jitsu is in your head.

I noticed the post about the seven stripes on a black instead of the red and black. so i was looking at a picture of helio gracie and he has 10 stripes on his red belt, but red already signifies 10th degree. does anyone know if it just means 10th degree black belt still or is it 10 stripes for however long after receiving the red belt???

Wow, Congrats to Marcio! At that level he could probably beat you with both feet binded together, one hand tied behind his back and blindfolded! LOL.

red belt signifies both 9th and 10th degrees. i actually have the picture as my desktop background. lol. and to clarify Helio was buried wearing a very dark blue belt. Royce wears the same colous of belt now. back in the old school days you had white, light blue and dark blue for your belt colours. there was no other colours until BJJ became more commercialized.
