I've only ever used an old T-Shirt under my Gi, Is it really that awesome to use a rashguard? I've always thought of them as a bit excessive but a guy in class has splashed out and got a long sleeve hayabusa and reckons it feels alot better then anything else.
Any tips on getting a rashguard? Long sleeve vs short, Brands etc
Rashguards are nice under your gi for several reasons.
1. They feel good on the skin (no rubbing)
2. They kinda make it so your gi isnt as wet after you roll, so if your 1 of those guys that likes to re-use a gi, its good to have a rashguard.
3. there breathable as well, so you feel cooler.
I dont like to wear them no-gi however, makes it to slippery, the cotton t's give you a little bit of grip so you can slow guys down atleast.
i have both short and long sleeve i like using it for both gi and nogi on the tatami mats it feels like i have a better advantage on the back cuz i slip more an can spin around an pull off sub quicker. but at the end of the day its personal preference. i would suggest buying a longsleeve that is cheap so if you dont like it there is no big loss.
for training no-gi, t shirts get all stretched out and sometimes get in the way, it can get in the way, like you can get a toe stuck in a guys shirt and crap.......
I always wore t-shirts under my gi too. I eventually switched to UnderArmour. I like it but I'm a bit chubby and sometimes it's like putting 10 lbs of crap in a 5lb bag. Seriously the compression gear is great. It feels good and keeps you cool but it's really tight. I would recommend some sort of rash guard over a t-shirt any day. UA is pretty expensive. So I get the walmar/K-Mart cheap ones and stock up.
My instructor requires you to wear both a rashguard and a t-shirt under your gi. I don't really know why, but it doesn't bother me so I don't complain. I like wearing the rash guard. I recommend going cheap. I like the long-sleeve, but I've given up on them because the elbows wear out on me in a couple of weeks.
So basically all rashguards are using the same tech and there isn't a huge difference between them?
So some say long sleeve and some say short. Any other reasons, and what about the sleeveless style tops?
I mostly wear short sleeves because I tend to sweat too much in the long sleeve ones and don't really see the need for long sleeves under my gi top. I hate wearing a tee shirt under my gi because I sweat like a freak and the tee shirts get all soaked and feel nasty
i may be impartial but i wear all 3 styles for gi and nogi
here is my rashgaurd btw lol
had to use stock photo i just used mine training so its in the wash couldnt take pix
