We dont use stripes in our team.
I do have three stripes on my blue. Had them since summer 2008 but got them from one Alliance teacher. (We where not affiliated with HILTI then. We where not affiliated with anything then)
I ahve been thinking that if we would have time and space for kids class. We could use stripes for them as it is more important for kids to see their progress and get that recognition from the teacher.
lol true
im the mountain of the mat you may move me, you may crack me, but you will never break me.
i feel as thought competition has clouded the BJJ world. compete to prove it works, compete for the enjoyment of competing. but please, dont compete to prove you should earn a belt. i have been studying this art for 15years now and i dont compete anymore. i love teaching, i love seeing the look of happiness and pride when taping a stripe onto a white belt, and the look of camaraderie a purple belt has when they get their new belt. i tell all my students that they can compete if they want. their tournament standings dont count towards their promotions. their skill on the mat, and their dedication to the art is what allows me to promote my students fairly.
A month for a blue belt!? No way that guy is legit! They are definitely handing out ranks!

I think our school is pretty stingy on giving out belts , thank god.. Our instructor is from brazil and he's pretty tough on everyone and pushes people a lot to compete ..we have had blue belts from other schools come in and get tapped by our white belts...so yeah, no McDojo here....
