He started out good. But somewhere near mid he started to sound repetative and rather whiny even a little scared. It is a combat sport and you will get injured eventually no matter how careful or how many softer sparring partners you roll with.Nobody wants to roll with a guy who wants to destroy everyone no matter what not caring if he hurts his teamates. But lets be honest most of those guys don't last more than a month, the real guys stick with it and learn to leave their ego outta it while training. It being a combat sport or MA there is always gonna be that one guy who is hard nosed and wants to win no matter what. These people can be avoided or not.

I def don't like this bs statement that BJJ isn't a team sport.Good luck teaching yourself BJJ alone with no teamates to push you to make you better.Im sure you would get alot further simply buying a Bubba dummy and rolling with him in your garage watching BJJ how to vids.Sure if you compete you roll alone but you woulda never got there without your teamates help,as they wouldn't without yours.

    Good article
I'd say im a pretty good training partner... with white belts anyway, since i go easy on them. Our gym does the kid's ranking system if you're under 18, so once they hit like orange or so, we are required to train full force. It's kinda funny too, cause the one I always end up training with is about 130 lb., 5'7 or so and he counts everything as a win.

I consider myself a good partner, so far had no problems with any one , when i roll, i go 100%. I try to be as competitive as possible, but i do tap a lot when i see theres no escape. I dont want to get hurt or get somebody hurt.
But no doubt about rolling at 100%, thats how you get good.

I run into the issue getting paired up with big guys (because I am 6.3 and 206 pounds), who tend to be lazy. When I'm in class learning technique, I want to drill until I run out of time, over and over again. These guys whine about how their ribs are sore or they have this old injury to their arm ad nuaseum! Drives me nuts! I sometime wish I was smaller so I could get with a guy that is serious about class time.

This is a bit of a conudrum for me as these guys consider me "their" partner whenever they are in class. They are all less experienced than me and I would like sometime to get with a smaller, better partner.

Any other bigger guys out there have this issue?

I`m not that big, 6ft 190 pounds....and i really prefer rolling with smaller guys because are more active during rolling and during drills as well.....but also rolling with big guys allows me to feel how it is going to be in competition. I try to roll with as many different body types i can, big guys, small guys, girls, tall, short, musculer, skinny, etc... That makes you be prepared to whatever you get during a competition.
I totally agree with you though.
